Drupal 7 is getting better...

I decided to take advantage of the long weekend, and (re)retry, (this is the fourth time now...) to upgrade this site from Drupal 6, to Drupal 7.

I've given up on a seamless, happy-go-lucky, worry-free upgrade/install at this point, and have decided that I'll just try to recreate this site using v.7 as the base.

Shame on you CentOS,... or Whatever.

So I, like plenty of others have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for CentOS (normally, I'd have linked to it, but no more...) to release version 6, both for personal and professional reasons. Professionally, we (my cohorts and I, at work) have given up, and started implementing Scientific Linux, put together by some of the brilliant minds at CERN and Fermilab. I played with it enough at work to decide I'd try it on this box (my server at home). It's been a breath of fresh air.

Kevin's Song by The Risk

The lyrics on this one don't mean anything. I never finished them, though I did have a 'theme' in mind... In any case, we were predominantly a live band, and nobody could have ever picked out lyrics during a show anyhow... This was our 'Stepping Stone'. I suppose every band has to have one...

Android by [PRE]Risk

This was done during downtime when we recorded the 'Adventures on Planet Heartbreak' stuff... Just me messing around, and then turned into something that didn't really go with the rest of the songs on the record.... The lyrics were inspired by stuff that Mr. Meals had once sung whilst we were 'jamming'... Greg did the drums ; me on everything else..., and whomever I could find for the cadre of backing vocals... Was never properly mastered, so you may wanna lower the volume a tad...

Fruit Jars by Tim Pourbaix

Recorded during KillFix era... For all intents and purposes this was just another KillFix song, but this ended up on Tim (Pourbaix)'s first solo release.

Long, Long Death by The Risk

Absolutely no question about it, my favorite song The Risk ever wrote. Every time we played this was an absolutely inspired event. Don't get me wrong,... I liked everything we did, but for some reason this one was just always my personal favorite.

Eight by Killfix

More KillFix. One of my personal favorites that we did. Also, I think a good example of the K.I.S.S. school of drumming.

Rival by Killfix

KillFix was the first band I played drums for in a very, very long time. I was pretty rusty, but working with those guys was one of those situations where everyone just really 'gelled' right away. I'm certain this was the first song I ever played with them, and it didn't change much between the very first time and when we ended up recording it...

Enjoy,

2011 (Proposed) Reading List

In addition to any as yet discovered and/or new things I'll end up reading this year, here's a list of all the things I'd like to revisit this year:

All of the 'Dune' books, (including the Herbert/Anderson (pre/se)quels. I just haven't yet decided whether I read them chronologically in the order they were written, or chronologically in terms of the events in the story.

  • The Original Six:
    • Dune
      Children of Dune
      Dune Messiah
      God Emporer of Dune
      Heretics of Dune
      Chapterhouse Dune
  • The Herbert/Anderson "Houses" Trilogy:
    • House Atreides

    Bumper Sticker by nates

This was a good song. Mr. Meals on one guitar and Vox, myself on the other, and everything else. All done in single takes (pat-on-back) due to time constraints where it was recorded. Not terribly happy w/ the drums in this, but ce la vie. They recorded for s**t, particularly the brass, despite being a very nice (expensive) kit.
